Born and raised in New York, M.C. Golden received her BA in English from Vassar College, where she was a graduating member of the legendary first fully coeducational class of 1974.
Golden left academics behind to compete hunters and jumpers on the Eastern seaboard, then gravitated to her other love, writing and editing, by pursuing a career in publishing.
An editor for twenty plus years, Golden started out in books. Her first job, at Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, Inc., meant spending idyllic days in the New York Public Library, selecting short stories for textbooks and anthologies. The rare days she was in the office, her job was to conduct phone interviews with Isaac Asimov, William Saroyan and other literary giants so that she could write their author bios for inclusion in the books.
After the company relocated to Florida, Golden entered the faster-paced environment of magazines, where she was an editor at Glamour, Esquire, Longevity, Fitness, Lear’s and TV Guide, among others. While she was editorial manager of Esquire, Pete Dexter was the sports columnist and Richard Price and Richard Ford were writing short stories for the magazine. An equestrian since the age of five, Golden has owned and successfully competed hunters and jumpers on the A-level show circuit for as many years as she's been an editor.
With Jolted, her first novel, Golden has turned her talents from editing to the other side of the desk.
